Kosgoda,, 9 km south of Bentota Bay Beach, is the prime sea turtle nesting site in the western coastal belt of Sri Lanka. The one-kilometer stretch of Kosgoda, beach is protected of poaching by the Turtle Conservation Project in association with the Wildlife Department of Sri Lanka.
